An explanation of our kite categories...
Stunt Kites: Also known as performance kites or as sport kites, traction kites, trick
kites, power kites, dual line kites and even quad line kites. These stunt
kites are quite the rage as with a bit of training you can make these stunt
kites do amazing tricks that will have onlookers astounded. Most stunt
kites have a frame or "sticks" that give the kite their shape.
These "rigid frame" kites can generate high speeds as they fly
through the air. If you have never flown a stunt kite before and want to
learn quickly, we suggest purchasing "Catch The Magic" available in DVD or VHS in our accessories section.
Power Kites: Once again, these dual or quad line kites can also be known by all of
the names listed above, but in this case, the shape of the kite is determined
by the way the fabric is cut and sewn and is not shaped by the addition
of "sticks." Most often, the power kite is crescent shaped and
can have two or four lines to control it. One of the best features of a
power kite is your ability to fold a relatively large kite into a small
package for easy storage and travel. These power parafoil kites can generate
a large amount of "pull" which at the very least will exercise
your arms and shoulders and with a large power parafoil kite and a good
wind, your feet will leave the ground! These power kites are also used
in wind surfing, skiing, roller bladeing, mountain boarding and buggying.
Smaller power parafol kites can do many of the same tricks as the rigid
frame stunt kites.
Kites: Flying Wonders: This is a large assortment of single line kites that are unusual in their
shape and design yet easy to fly. All of the single line kites can be flown
by a beginner. Flying Wonder kites don't fit the traditional design of
diamond or delta shape. Many are shaped like airplanes or ships, flowers
or insects. Flying Wonder kites make great gifts because they are unusual
yet easy to fly. Single line kites are kites that once you have launched
your kite and if the wind remains steady, you should be able to tie off
your kite and take a walk. It means you don't always have to hold on to
it!
Delta kites: Delta kites are delta shaped...a 3 sided kite with a very wide base. How
wide? Usually at least 4' across at the base and we have some that measure
20' across at the base! Delta kites fly high and they love to have lots
of tails, spinners and line laundry attached to them. Because Delta kites
have a large and flat surface area, kite designers are able to apply some
outstanding graphics that are impossible to put on other styles of kites.
Diamond Kites: The diamond kite is the kite usually associated with our friend, Mr. Ben
Franklin. The diamond shape kite needs a tail to steady it and all of our
diamond kites already have tails attached to them. Diamond kites have a
tendency to move erratically in the sky, diving and dipping, but usually
recover with a tug on the string. If you are a traditionalist, diamond
kites are probably for you.
Easy Flyers/Super Flyers: We get calls every day asking for a kite that is fail safe, guaranteed
to fly. Well, so long as there is a steady breeze, we can guarantee that
any of the easyflyer/superflyer kites in this category will fly with the
minimum amount of effort...they will not disappoint you!
Box Kites, Cellular Kites: Most of us are familiar with box kites. Box kites need a little more wind
than some of the aforementioned kites, but if you have a good steady breeze,
they are a delight to fly. There are so many unusual shapes, which means
that they have more than the average number of parts and take a bit more
time to set up. But it is worth it - and which is why serious kiters always
have a few cellular kites in their bag.
Parafoil Kites/Sled Kites: What makes parafoil and sled kites so popular is that they have no sticks
that can break and they pack up into small pouches that travel just about
anywhere. The larger parafoil kites and sled kites have significant pulling
power that can hoist a lot of line laundry ...sort of like an anchor in
the sky!
Dragon Kites/Rokkaku Kites: Dragon kites are those long wavy kites you see in the sky that look like
they could be 100 feet long...and many of them are. Our dragon kites start
at 18' and they are just as exciting to watch and not nearly as difficult
to launch. Rokkaku kites are also known as fighting kites. They have six
sides and are not easy to fly for the beginner. Rokkaku kites are very
popular among collectors.
Mini Kites: Yes, mini kites really fly and they make great party favors. We know a
lot of adults that love to sit in a beach chair and fly two or three mini
kites at a time. (Yes Grandpa and Grandma, I'm talking about you!)
Joel Scholz Signature Kites: Joel Scholz is one of the most famous and successful kite designers in
the world. We thought it would be nice to honor Joel with his own little
section here....without Joel Scholz designs, the kite world would be a
lot less exciting.
Jackite Flying Bird Kites: If you have never seen these before, it is worth taking a look. They are
usually flown from a bamboo or fiberglass pole on a short length of string,
but they can also be flown as a kite. They are made from tyvek...the same
material that Federal Express uses to make their mailing envelopes. They
are difficult to assemble so we recommend that you purchase them pre-assembled.
The graphics are hand drawn and stunning. But what is really amazing is
the lifelike appearance that they give as they fly in the sky. Used in
the most recent Superbowl and at the Atlanta Olympics closing ceremonies.
Rockets/Gliders/Frisbees: It's fun to have some other toys that fly when there is no wind!
Private Labeling kites: This area is not for if you are looking for a single kite that you want
to have personalized with your name or message. We suggest buying one of
our kites and taking it to a silkscreener to do that. If on the other hand,
you are the purchasing manager for a large resort or you are putting on
a huge event for the next visit of the Queen of England, let' talk...our
minimum order is 3,000 kites, all of the same design.
